Dr Paul Turner graduated from Melbourne University in 1991 and has been working as a consultant haematologist since 2001 after training in this field at the Alfred and Austin hospitals in Melbourne. He has worked in bone marrow transplantation, malignant haematology and general haematology with both clinical and laboratory components. His current public hospital appointment (since 2001) is the Austin and his main private hospital is John Fawkner at Coburg.
His private practice involves all areas of haematology including providing chemotherapy, autologous stem cell transplant, blood product and iron transfusions via John Fawkner Hospital. Dr Turner also works as a laboratory haematologist at Australian Clinical Labs (formerly Healthscope Pathology) and directly supervises laboratories at John Fawkner Hospital, Clayton, Bacchus Marsh and Brisbane, as well as chairing the national haematology group for this organisation.
Although a specialist with wide-ranging expertise Dr Turner has a special interest in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia, with involvement in clinical trials in this area in both the private and public sectors. Other special interests are Myeloproliferative disorders and autologous stem cell transplantation.
He is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Leukaemia-Lymphoma group (ALLG) and a fellow of the RCPA and RACP.
